What is SketchCamp?
Sketching is all about thinking visually, not about creating masterpieces in your notebook.
Too often considered a privilege of the artistic, sketching can be a powerful tool for anyone and everyone. Designers, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketers, advertisers, and artists can all benefit from scribbling out their ideas. If you can write your name with a pen, pencil, or marker, you can sketch.
SketchCamp is about empowering yourself and your colleagues to start sketching more as way of brainstorming and communicating with one another. No matter what your background or what you’re working on, sketching may be that missing tool you’ve needed to dig yourself out of that creative rut.
What will the event be like?
SketchCamp will be a busy day full of interactive discussions and workshops. The morning will consist of a brief introduction and two keynote presentations. The afternoon will be broken out into two tracks consisting of both presentations and workshops. Be prepared to sketch throughout the day and participate in some fun workshops.
Slots for speakers are still available for the afternoon sessions. If you are interested in presenting or would like to conduct a mini-workshop, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’re unsure what to talk about or feel unqualified to speak, don’t worry. We want speakers of all types and can provide tips and feedback on your topic.
Where did the idea for SketchCamp come from?
Sketchcamp began last year in San Francisco and has since been replicated in Chicago and at SXSW. Earlier this year, Design+Tech put on a Mini SketchCamp DSM featuring Ron Wagner, comic book artist and illustrator, as the main speaker. Everyone had so much fun, Design+Tech and AIGA Iowa decided to come together to organize a full-day event.
